Southern University of Denmark | Denmark

DU was formed in 1998 through the merger of Odense University and the Technical University of Southern Denmark. The Department of Technology and Innovation (ITI) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) provides research & innovation with global impact in collaboration with industry and other external partners. The department is part of the Faculty of Engineering at SDU and is present in two campuses, namely in Odense and in Sønderborg. SDU Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation (TEI) is a section at ITI that focuses on educating engineers at the intersection of technology-based innovation and business. It hosts both a Bachelor and a Master of Science in Engineering program called Engineering, Innovation, and Business. Both the section and the institute focus primarily on education, research, and collaboration with industrial partners. ITI currently employs some 80 researchers and educators and runs 6 educational programs on two campuses. Approximately 3000 students currently study at the Faculty of Engineering at SDU.

SDU has recently focused on research in smart manufacturing, simulation, and Digital Twins. The EFICAS project will strengthen SDU's research profile in AI applications and Digital Twins.

Project Contributions:

  • The main contributions include leading the development and implementation of the EFICAS AI-Library and supporting the use case Industry Automation with digital twin and simulation. The technology being developed throughout the project can be used to support sensor/ actuation signal preprocessing, sensor fusion and decision making, and digital twin. Being the only academic partner in EFICAS in Denmark, SDU shall support research activities with various industrial partners.
